Day 56 (Part 2): From the Chinese Border to Kaxgar
Entering China was one of the most anticipated milestones of the tour, and as expected, the formalities were extensive. However, thanks to careful preparation and support from longtime partner Mr. Wang, the process went smoothly. With paperwork, vehicle checks, and clearances handled in advance, the team crossed the Irkeshtam border with confidence and continued east.
The road to Kaxgar followed a winding mountain route through the western reaches of the country, offering dramatic views of copper-toned cliffs and expansive ridgelines. Along the way, the team briefly crossed paths with a British cyclist named Ben, who was riding solo from the UK to Hong Kong—one of many unexpected yet inspiring encounters on this journey.
As the landscape opened up, the transition became clear. Wind turbines dotted the skyline, and modern infrastructure began to appear in stark contrast to the rugged terrain of the days prior. By the time the ID. Buzz reached the outskirts of Kaxgar, the route had transformed into a wide, multi-lane expressway.
By evening, the team arrived in Kaxgar, one of the most iconic cities of the ancient Silk Road. Now a UNESCO World Heritage site, the city blends deep history with modern growth. After days of high-altitude crossings and long-distance driving, the stop in Kaxgar marked both a moment of rest and a major waypoint in the record-setting global tour.
Next stop: To be announced.
