Day 22 + 23: Batumi to Tbilisi
Into Georgia’s Green Heart
The journey across Georgia proved to be one of the standout moments of the tour so far. A newly constructed highway now links Batumi to Tbilisi, winding through rolling green hills and open valleys. The drive delivered on every road trip expectation—smooth surfaces, sweeping views and barely any interruptions.
Unexpected Detour with a Familiar Flavour
Midway through the drive, the team made an unexpected stop at something few expected to find in the Caucasus—a Georgian outpost of the Munich-based Hofbräuhaus. While the ID. Buzz charged on a 120 kW unit nearby, the team recharged with cold drinks and pretzels. It was a brief but welcome mix of familiarity and efficiency.
A Taste of Local Traditions
As the route passed through smaller Georgian villages, one detail kept catching the team’s eye. Nearly every few houses displayed clay baking molds for sale—used to make nazuki, a sweet spiced bread unique to Georgia. The repetition became part of the scenery, a roadside rhythm that revealed something deeper about local culture.
Arrival in Tbilisi
The crew arrived in Tbilisi in the evening and was welcomed by Giti Tire Georgia. Conversations stretched well into the night as stories were exchanged and plans were discussed. Their support and interest in the project made for a rewarding stop.
Preparing for the Next Border
The following morning included a visit to the German Embassy in Tbilisi to arrange documents required for entering Azerbaijan. With added logistics in play, the next leg of the tour will bring fresh challenges and new terrain.
Next stop: Baku.
