Day 78: Changsha to Guilin
After a routine recharge at a local Volkswagen dealership, the team made a spontaneous choice to leave the motorway behind. The goal: to catch a glimpse of everyday life far from the highways and megacities.
Into the Heart of the Countryside
The transformation was immediate. Lush green rice fields lined the road, with farmers spreading their harvest directly on the asphalt to dry. The scent of rice hung in the air as the road wound through an increasingly dramatic landscape. Steep hills rolled into view, evoking scenes often associated with rural China.
Sunset and a Surprise on the Plate
As evening fell, the hills lit up with a golden glow. The day ended with a locally prepared meal—complete with crispy grasshoppers on the menu. A surprising but fitting end to a day defined by detours and discovery.
