Day 64–65: Guazhou to Beijing
Technical Detour to Datong
After encountering issues with a faulty ground connection in Turpan, it became clear our mobile charger had sustained damage. To avoid further complications on the road, the team made the call to transport the ID. Buzz by truck to Datong — a mid-sized city by Chinese standards, yet home to over three million people and the kind of specialist support we needed.
Once in Datong, local electronics experts quickly assessed and repaired the circuit board. With the charging system restored, the tour was back on track.
Beijing in Full Celebration
As the vehicle repairs wrapped up, Beijing was preparing for one of its largest national celebrations. Televisions, radios and digital screens across the region were tuned into parade coverage. With the city paused in collective focus, the team continued toward the capital.
By evening, the ID. Buzz rolled into Beijing — navigating the city’s vibrant traffic and reaching the hotel with just enough time to charge overnight at 7 kW.
A Milestone Reached
Reaching Beijing marked more than just another destination on the map. It was a key waypoint in the world tour, and despite the technical detour, the team arrived on schedule. With the charger restored and the vehicle fully recharged, the tour continues eastward.
