Day 122–123
Morning Markets and Club Companions
The journey from Jakarta to Semarang began with a detour into one of the capital’s lively local markets. Here, rows of tightly packed stalls buzzed with activity—vendors calling out, baskets brimming with produce, and the unmistakable hum of daily life in motion. The brief stop offered a colourful contrast to the steady rhythm of the highway that lay ahead.
Back on the road, the day took a special turn. Members of the Volkswagen Club Indonesia joined the route, driving alongside the ID. Buzz in their lovingly restored T1 and T2 classics. The sight of these vintage companions cruising together through Java created a spontaneous convoy full of conversation, camera flashes, and shared enthusiasm.
Colonial Dining and a Safari Surprise
Upon arrival in Semarang, the evening held more in store. Dinner took place at “Spiegel,” a beautifully preserved colonial-era mansion now serving as a restaurant. The setting, full of character and history, elevated the meal into an event. As a final flourish, a Volkswagen Safari made an appearance, reinforcing the sense of community and continuity in this ever-growing automotive journey.
