Day 20: From Europe to Asia – Istanbul to Ankara
Crossing Continents
The morning in Istanbul began early, with the first light revealing the city’s skyline through minarets and historic domes. After breakfast overlooking the Bosphorus, the team boarded the ferry and officially crossed from Europe into Asia. It marked not just a geographic milestone, but the beginning of a new chapter in the ID. Buzz World Tour.
Charging Power in Bolu
Leaving Istanbul behind, the road opened up into smooth highway driving toward Bolu. There, the team stopped at one of the most advanced charging hubs of the entire journey so far. Located at the Bolu Highway Outlet Service Area, the site featured DC chargers delivering up to 450 kW—far exceeding previous stations in the region. The ID. Buzz was charged quickly and the crew took the opportunity to recharge themselves as well.
Arrival in Ankara
In the Turkish capital, the crew visited Doğuş Oto, a key Volkswagen partner. The facility’s fast-charging infrastructure and the team’s hospitality made for an ideal stop. With the vehicle plugged in and the sun setting, the city took on a golden glow across its modern skyline.
A Moment of Nostalgia
Before leaving Ankara, the team spotted a classic VW Beetle at a roadside café. A quick spin in the vintage model served as a reminder of the brand’s heritage, contrasting beautifully with the ID. Buzz’s role in this global EV journey.
Next stop: Batumi.
