From Tanjung Pelepas to Jakarta – Customs, Cameras, and Colonial Streets

Day 120–121

Port Arrival and Press Spotlight

After twenty days at sea, the ID. Buzz finally arrived in Jakarta, having travelled securely inside its twenty-foot shipping container. The customs clearance process was efficient, and soon the vehicle was back on the road, ready to begin the Southeast Asian leg of the world tour.

Jakarta welcomed the team with an impressive press event hosted by Indomobil, Volkswagen’s importer in Indonesia. Special thanks were extended to Andrew, Stefan, and the supportive teams at Indomobil and Giti Tire for their warm reception. Over one hundred attendees gathered to hear the story of the journey so far, as told through the tour’s online platform and shared in person during the presentation.

Driving Through History – Batavia and Monas by Night

The day continued with a visit to the German Embassy, followed by a drive through the old colonial quarter of Batavia. Here, remnants of Dutch architecture still shape the city’s historical core, offering a stark contrast to Jakarta’s ever-growing skyline.

Navigating Jakarta’s famously dense traffic was no small feat. Motorbikes flowed past in every direction, but by evening the team managed to reach several of the city’s key landmarks. Among the highlights was the National Monument—Monas—glowing in the night sky, a proud symbol of Indonesia’s capital and a fitting backdrop to close out the day.
