Day 25: Tbilisi to Armenia
Logistics and a Pause in Progress
After a few days in Tbilisi, the focus shifted to planning. Together with Auto Link GmbH, specialists in cross-border logistics, the team coordinated the next phase of the tour: reaching Azerbaijan and preparing for the ferry across the Caspian Sea.
Why We Couldn’t Drive Through Azerbaijan
Due to long-standing COVID-related restrictions, Azerbaijan’s land borders remain closed to international vehicle traffic. As a result, the ID. Buzz was transported by truck to Baku. Because the team wasn’t able to physically drive the vehicle through the country, Azerbaijan won’t be counted in the official Guinness World Record total.
A Quick Crossing into Armenia
While waiting for the vehicle to arrive in Baku, the team made a quick side trip into Armenia. Not far from the border, several fast chargers equipped with the GB/T connector standard offered a unique glimpse into the region’s growing EV infrastructure. After arranging local insurance and capturing a few notes for the road diary, it was back to Tbilisi.
What’s Next
The ID. Buzz will arrive in Kazakhstan by ferry, with the next driving leg kicking off in Aktau on Monday, 18 August. Until then, the tour takes a short reporting pause.
Next stop: Central Asia.
