Day 0: Hanover, Germany
The ID. Buzz World Tour is officially underway. On 30 June, endurance driver Rainer Zietlow and cameraman Sönke Dannemann set off from Mannheim toward Hanover in the all-electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz Long Wheel Base, preparing for the global record attempt now in motion.
First Stop: AvD Headquarters in Frankfurt
Their first stop was at the Automobilclub von Deutschland (AvD) in Frankfurt, where the team secured their Carnet de Passage — a key document required for cross-border travel. The visit was met with strong support: both the AvD’s Head of Marketing and its Managing Director and President came out to see the ID. Buzz in person and offer encouragement at the start of the journey.
A Blend of History and Technology
Further along the A5 motorway, the team paused at Germany’s oldest highway rest stop — a fitting backdrop to highlight the contrast between historic infrastructure and modern mobility. While filming content at the site’s Ionity fast-charging station (powered by tour partner Elli), the ID. Buzz was topped up for the final leg to Hanover.
Arrival in Hanover
By early evening, the vehicle and crew reached Hanover, arriving at a packed city centre filled with concertgoers attending the Robbie Williams show. Amid the excitement, the team focused on final preparations: charging logistics, gear checks, and final route planning.
Tomorrow, the journey officially launches from the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Customer Center in Hanover. The world tour begins with one goal:
One electric van. One set of Giti tyres. One world record.
Stay tuned for daily updates, photos, and behind-the-scenes moments as the journey continues.
Next stop: Official tour launch — Hanover.
