Day 1: Berlin, Germany
After months of preparation, planning, and vehicle outfitting, the ID. Buzz World Tour has formally launched from the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Customer Center in Hanover.
The send-off event included representatives from Volkswagen, Giti Tire — the main sponsor and official tyre partner — and a notary to certify the start of the record-setting attempt.
The vehicle, a specially modified Volkswagen ID. Buzz Pro Long, is now fully equipped with mobile charging support and running on a single set of GitiSynergyH₂ tyres — the same set that will carry the team across 80+ countries on their way to a world record.
First Leg: Hanover to Berlin
The team departed Hanover at 2:15 p.m. en route to Berlin, but plans to travel via the A2 motorway were disrupted by a full road closure in Brandenburg. A detour through smaller towns and rural roads added unexpected character to the first leg of the journey.
Along the way, the team visited the former border crossing at Marienfelde, once dividing East and West Germany, and stopped at the Elbe Lift Lock in Magdeburg, a remarkable piece of industrial engineering history.
By evening, they reached Berlin and capped the day with a visit to several of the capital’s best-known landmarks:
• The Victory Column
• The Brandenburg Gate
• The Reichstag
A strong start to a long journey ahead.
Next stop: Hamburg.
