Day 81: Baise to Jianshui
The road from Baise to Jianshui traced a dramatic path through the highlands of Yunnan. Elevation climbed steadily, rising to 2,000 metres and threading through drifting banks of low cloud. With each turn, new vistas opened up—valleys far below and distant cities nestled within them, barely visible through the haze.
Landscapes of Scale and Stillness
Along the way, vast greenhouse complexes dominated entire stretches of countryside. Their scale was immense, and their glassy surfaces reflected the changing sky as the day wore on. Despite the constant motion of the journey, the rhythm slowed as the landscape grew quieter, more reflective.
Arrival in a City of Heritage
By evening, the road delivered us into Jianshui, a city steeped in history. Known for its ancient architecture, stone gateways and peaceful temple gardens, Jianshui offered a gentle contrast to the mountain roads that led us there. Its calm atmosphere and cultural depth provided a welcome close to a long day’s drive.
