Day 57–58: Kaxgar, China
A Pause in an Ancient Crossroads
The ID. Buzz World Tour spent two full days in Kaxgar, a city with deep historical roots at the intersection of cultures, deserts and trade routes. Once a key hub along the ancient Silk Road, Kaxgar sits between the Taklamakan Desert and the mountains of Central Asia — a place long used by travelers as a point of rest, reflection and preparation.
The team used this time to explore the city’s Old Town, one of the best-preserved in China and recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its dense network of narrow alleys, mud-brick buildings and traditional timber façades offered a completely different rhythm compared to modern urban China.
Local Landmarks and Panoramic Views
Among the stops in the city were the prominent Mao Zedong statue and a visit to the Kaxgar city tower, which provided sweeping views over both old and new sections of the city. From above, the contrast between the historical core and contemporary development made a strong impression.
Partner Check-ins and Logistics
While in Kaxgar, the team visited local Giti Tire and Volkswagen partners to inspect the ID. Buzz and ensure it was fully prepared for the road ahead. Thanks to a mobile charging setup, the vehicle was recharged overnight at 6 kW — a practical solution while staying at the hotel.
Administrative requirements were also completed during the stop. The team secured both national driver’s licenses and temporary vehicle registration, two essential documents for continuing travel through China in a foreign vehicle.
With the vehicle in top condition and paperwork in place, the crew left Kaxgar feeling ready for the next chapter of the journey.
Next stop: Kuqa.
